Walking in London
Most people agree that a visit to a city is enhanced by gaining an insight to it's history, art and culture.Tour guides escorting groups around defined city routes have traditionally fulfilled this role for many years. More recently the provision of audio guides has been possible, but these have been limited to indoor attractions.
These devices sometimes known as [1]MP3 and [2]MP4 players are light and easy to carry.
They have the capacity to hold the required amout of digital memory to store a lot of audio and video material. There has been a vast increase in personal ownereship of these devices.
Together with the increase in home and laptop computer ownership, the conditions exist to enable people to download low cost audio and multimedia guides from the Internet.
The ability to this means, that people can now preview and evaluate a tour before downloading a guide to their media player via a computer before their visit. So, when they arrive, they can put the headphones on and start the tour, using a map and guide provided ( Tip: check before downloading that the map supplied is detailed map and not just a schematic line diagram of the route, these can be confusing)
Other benefits include:
Being able to use a device they are familiar with. You can take the tour at any time to suit your schedule and you can listen again and again to individual audio tracks or the whole tour
And of course, you can keep the tour after their visit!
